71 for the win: Hennessey Blackbird

In an era of increasingly digitized and overcomplicated hypercars, Hennessey is pulling the plug with the all-new Blackbird—a loud, analog counterstrike for enthusiasts aiming to reclaim the pure art of driving.

Mach-Man-Machine

Featured Car: Hennessey Blackbird

Inspired by the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, this purebred machine breathes aerospace history while delivering outstanding on-road performance. The Blackbird's connection to the SR-71 goes far beyond the name: its crisp body-side chine lines and active vertical rear stabilizers are direct bows to the aircraft's iconic silhouette—the latter deploy at exactly 71 mph and position themselves at a 71-degree angle.

And yes, that special homage is also reflected in its extreme limitation: only 71 examples will ever be hand-built in Sealy, Texas.

Beneath the bespoke carbon-fiber shell lurks no whispering electric motor, but an all-new naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, developed by Ilmor Engineering, the company of legendary engine builder Mario Illien. The goal was clear and pure at the same time: no turbos, no hybrid assistance. Instead: linear power delivery, up to 850 horsepower, a redline screaming past 9,000 rpm, and a target weight of under 3,000 lbs, resulting in a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds and a 220 mph top speed.

The core of the experience, however, isn't chasing numbers—it's the man-machine connection, embodied by the exposed linkage of the six-speed gated manual transmission. Inside, the cabin is a strictly screen-free zone. No infotainment displays, no steering-wheel buttons. Instead, a massive central analog tachometer and a real, physical ignition key dominate the driver-focused space.

The Blackbird isn't a track toy for a quick adrenaline spike; it’s designed as a touring hypercar capable of crushing 800-mile days in comfort. Starting at $2.5 million, it is a rare tribute to the mechanical age. In other words: an analog hypercar built for real drivers, aiming for real experiences.
