So, it was only logical for Roger Dubuis to turn high watchmaking into a canvas of Japanese history with its latest Métiers d’Art masterpiece, the Excalibur Kabuto Legacy. Raising the bar and limited to just 28 pieces worldwide, the exclusive 45mm boutique edition pays homage to the twelve feudal commanders who united Japan in 1603, launching the 265-year Edo era of peace.

At the heart of the dial sits a 17-piece pink gold miniature of Edo Castle, meticulously finished with blue CVD and black PVD roof elements. Twelve surrounding, hand-sculpted kabuto – traditional samurai helmets – mark the hours, featuring historical details like Date Masamune’s crescent moon and Honda Tadakatsu’s deer antlers. Just like the case, the kabuto are created from 18k pink gold. The caseback, in turn, is laser-engraved with the twelve kamon, the family crests representing each commander.
But the martial inspiration extends far beyond the dial: even the blue calf leather strap is built in volume with stitched tiles to echo the plates and odoshi cords of traditional samurai armor. Driven by the in-house self-winding Calibre RD821 and bearing the prestigious Poinçon de Genève seal, the watch offers a 48-hour power reserve – so you’ll have the perfect moment at any time.
