Balearic Benchmark:
Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra

Newly opened and nestled in the exclusive enclave of Calvià, the Punta Negra property of Mandarin Oriental merges Mallorca's raw beauty with the brand's signature sophistication.

Luxury and leisure

Location: Punta Negra, Mallorca, Spain

Mallorca has a bunch of nicknames, depending on who you ask – we like to think of it as "La Isla de la Calma", Spanish for "the island of the calm". Sure, it depends on where you let leisure guide you – but if you check in at the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, the moniker makes a lot of sense. Woven directly into the island's landscape, its 131 rooms and suites neither impose themselves on the surroundings, nor on the visitors.

Rather, they tell a story of tradition and life on the island: hand-placed stone facades are shaded by majestic pines, while wellness, culinary excellence, and privacy complement the property.

Here, the "embarras de richesses" is yours. Which lodging will you choose: one of the 131 rooms, including 26 suites which offer privacy? One of the 19 rooms and suites with plunge pools and 3 rooftop suites with private pools? Or might it be one of the nine exclusive coastal casitas modeled after traditional fishermen's houses?

Whichever option you decide upon, relish is guaranteed – also thanks to the gastronomic lineup, which is an undisputed heavy hitter, offering a global circuit of high-end concepts without leaving the peninsula: "Matsuhisa" serves Nobu-style Japanese cuisine alongside panoramic sea views, while "Leña", a new-era Spanish steakhouse, celebrates fire-cooked meats, yakipinchos, and vibrant Mallorcan festival culture. "Jacinta", the authentic Mexican outpost, focuses on artisanal tacos and fresh, seasonal ingredients. "Thalos" & "Sobretaula" act as a vibrant Greek-inspired pool club for the day, and a sophisticated oceanside terrace for sunset tapas and signature cocktails by night.

In any case, wellness will be a deep dive: the spa blends the brand's traditional Oriental philosophies with local island resources. The standout feature is the "Resident Curandero," offering an exclusive treatment that utilizes native Mallorcan herbs like sage, eucalyptus, and thyme for bespoke healing, beautifully contrasting with traditional Oriental Tea Ceremonies. No, Mandarin Oriental is not raising the bar on the island. It is calmly establishing a class of its own.
