Watches from IWC Schaffhausen were always engineered to perform—and also to impress connoisseurs. If you know, you know. A prime example here is Gérald Genta’s legendary 1976 Ingenieur SL, born with a steel-gated, ultra-industrial aesthetic ready for the laboratory and anyone who expected dependability.
Half a century later, IWC gives this heritage and the early-2020s Ingenieur revamp another delightfully refreshing twist: the Ingenieur Automatic 35 in "Pool".
The new aquatic shade casts the signature "Grid" pattern dial in a vibrant summer light while being scaled down to a sleek 35mm with a 9.4mm profile. Refined ergonomics meet polished and satin-finished steel, fitting seamlessly around the wrist via an integrated bracelet. The signature five functional bezel screws remain untouched, though they now secure a watch that feels far more at home on a French Riviera lounge chair than in a heavy-machinery plant.
Driven by the automatic Caliber 47110 with 10 bar water resistance, it actually encourages taking the dive. Industrial design? Rarely feels this casually elegant and confidently playful at the same time.
