It all starts with a dream—and in this case, A&K Sanctuary dreamed big. They set out to create something unprecedented that redefines true luxury. The result? The singular Samkani Camp, set in Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni. Spanning some 12,000 square kilometers, this otherworldly landscape transforms throughout the year from a cracked mosaic of hexagonal salt tiles into a vast, mirror-like expanse reflecting the sky.
While it remains one of South America's most captivating destinations, overnight stays directly on the salt flats were always scarce to nonexistent. A&K Sanctuary is changing the game, delivering a level of solitude few places on Earth can match.
The camp consists of five self-sufficient Airstream suites whose polished shells echo the vast surrounding salt and sky. Rather than dominating the landscape, the suites recede quietly into it. Step inside, however, and you're met with uncompromising luxury: blue Bolivian marble, refined chrome detailing, and a central dining Airstream complete with its own cocktail bar. It’s an experience that brings guests intimately close to the elements without asking them to sacrifice five-star comforts.
Complementing the stay is a curated lineup of more than thirty bespoke experiences across the salar, many exclusive to A&K Sanctuary guests. Highlights include expedition trips to hidden islands, volcanic caves, and stargazing beneath some of the clearest skies in the Southern Hemisphere, where the Milky Way unveils itself in breathtaking detail. The only downside? The camp is set to open in late 2027. But hey, good things come to those who wait.
